Millennials are said to be the most powerful consumer generation. A great deal of the growth of the economy lies in their hands. Therefore, the success of your business can be determined based on the relationship you form with millennials. The Promotional Products Association International (PPAI) did a study on this generation and their relationships with promotional products. Here is what we took away and want to share with you.
Who are they? Generations before millennials, individuals had goals that were only driven by money in the workplace. Now, however, these individuals are driven to find purpose in their work more than ever. They do not want bosses but rather coaches that will help develop their strengths instead of correcting their weaknesses. This connected, diverse, intelligent mass of people are not immediately brand loyal because they are primarily driven by engaging customer experiences.
What do they want from advertising? Only 1% percent of millennials said that a compelling advertisement will make them trust your brand more. Well, that is not leaving you with the best odds is it? Millennials value advertising that is visually appealing followed by a message that is clear and concise, thought provoking, and personally resonates with them.
What does this mean for your business? Millennials want advertising that breaks tradition and promotional products can be a great way to do just that. According to the PPAI study, 88% of millennials have a more favorable perception of the brand after receiving a promotional product. The gift of a promotional product creates brand awareness and keeps you top of mind. Many millennials report keeping these products for extended periods of time after they receive them. The number one reason they keep a product is because it provides a practical function to them. You could be the one to hold their morning cup of coffee with a mug or save the day when their phone dies with a power bank.
Although there’s no official “wedding season”, June and September are the peak months for couples to tie the knot. So, as long as it’s not cold out, there will likely be plenty of weddings taking place, and correspondingly an increase of custom items being produced.
The More the Merrier. The demand for custom wedding items has substantially increased within the past decade. Now more than ever, people can customize practically anything online for an affordable price and have an endless supply of design inspiration from social media posts. Personalized party supplies for weddings, such as monogrammed napkins or balloons, are still popular but seem to be a bare minimum accessory.
It’s All About the Guests. In addition to the variety of color and style options, custom wedding favors have become either much more practical or amusing in this digital age. Family members and friends attending the event can expect to receive a handful of these custom wedding favors, featuring the names of the bride and groom or the wedding date. Bridesmaids and groomsmen can expect to receive even more!
What’s Trending. Popular products include drinkware, sunglasses, pens, and coasters but the #1 custom wedding favor is…drum roll please…wedding koozies! Both cost-effective and functional, this custom item continues to grow in popularity. Guests put these to use right away and love how the catchy phrase on the koozie is fitting to the couple’s personality. Here’s a few of our favorites:
Live Well, Laugh Often, Love Always
Eat, Drink, and Be Married
To Have and To Hold and To Keep Your Beer Cold
The Wedding is Here, Time for Beer
The Vows Are Done, It’s Time for Fun

This is because school homecomings, sports tailgating, and late summer state fairs are all coming very soon (and often)! As potential customers get ready for these community festivities, make sure your business is getting ready as well with these effective items for fall.
Writing Utensils. Whether you want a basic design or a writing utensil with a stylus, pens are always a great choice for giveaways. Starting in August, these promotional products become even more valuable, especially for students and teachers as they head back to school. Make sure your pens are customized with black ink, rather than blue or red, because many school projects require to be done in black ink only! Just think, wouldn’t it be nice for your logo to be seen in a classroom?
Drinkware. As fall approaches, the high summer temperatures will continue stay. Beat the heat by providing your consumers with a customized tumbler or koozie for their cold beverages. These promotional products are reusable and functional practically anywhere, so customers are likely to repeatedly use them at tailgates and other social events. Talk about free advertising!
Bags. If your business plans to attend and handout a product at a high foot traffic community event, tote bags or drawstring backpacks are an especially great choice. It’s likely there will be several other businesses giving away free items. Your bags will be a relief for attendees because they now have a place to put all their collected items…rather than having to hold everything by hand! This will also make your brand stand out amongst competitors. Plus, a promotional bag is basically a moving billboard when used by a consumer!
When choosing your next promotional product for a community event or tradeshow, you can’t go wrong with any of these three items for fall. Is your business eager to get started with a product for the upcoming season? Contact Olive Promotions today!
Trade shows cost you both time and money, so you want to make the show worth your while. The setup of your booth can have a great impact on the engagement and response you receive from the visitors. From promo swag to banners, we have got the keys to drawing the crowds in and getting them talking.
Promo swag. It is highly unlikely that people will be raving about the pen they just received from your booth with fellow trade show attendees. You want something exciting that people are dying to get their hands on (check out our blog post about hand spinners). Quality is key. Choose something that people can use for years to come and something that will serve as a reminder of your brand when you are no longer with them.
Banners that catch the eye. Less is more--keep it crisp, clear, and direct. A simplistic and clean design can go a long way when you know your audience. Create a message that speaks to your target audience. Remember, a picture is worth a thousand words. So, design a banner that incorporates pictures that play off of your textual message.
Utilize technology. Have devices displaying videos or images that represent what your company does. This is a great visual and talking point during your conversations, but also serves as a source of information for booth visitors when you are busy with other guests. It may be helpful to have a station where there is a computer or tablet with your website up and people can browse what you have to offer.
Make it interactive. Demo your product. We understand that not all products and services can be demonstrated, but if you have one that can be, use this to your advantage. If you have a product that can not be demonstrated, there are other interactive ways you can pull people in like hosting a game.
Overnight, hand spinners have taken the world by storm. What started as a gadget to help nervous children has become so much more. Adults have caught wind and joined the bandwagon of hand spinners worldwide. As a device to help with distraction and nerves, it now serves as a toy and has been spotlighted all over Social Media, news coverage, and the internet. As a must-have gadget, this is a perfect promotional gift.
Before the Spring of 2017, hand spinners were not talked about, much less thought about. Now, when searching “fidget spinner,” the popular name for these hand spinners, on YouTube...12 million videos appear. People are sharing how-to videos, commentary, tricks, and funny moments. This serves as your opportunity for free advertising.
This hand-held device can display your company logo across the center. Many producers of this product state that the demand has far exceeded the supply. So, if you can score some hand spinners to pass out at a trade show or hand out simply as some company swag, you will be ahead of the game. At a low cost, you can provide potential clients or employees with hand spinners. For years people have given out pens, notepads, apparel, cups and koozies, but hand spinners are unique. It is not something that is going to end up in the back of their closet, buried in a random drawer, or thrown away. It is a product that people will use.
At trade shows, concerts, festivals, or fundraisers, you can have the hand spinners spin while laying flat, or have your employees playing with them to peak people’s interest. Wherever you may be for your next event, put a spin on your business with custom hand spinners.
As humans, we look for ways to engage with others. As a business, you want to interact with others in a way that sparks their attention and curiosity. Promotional products are not only a great way to start a conversation at a trade show, but they allow the consumer to continue the conversation every time they use the product. Using hats and mugs as your promotional product may seem standard, but there is power in simplicity. Check out just how powerful a simple mug and hat are.
Power of the mug. By holding your customers morning cup of joe for them, you're doing them a favor. Being apart of this everyday routine serves as a subtle reminder that you are always there. So, when there comes a time when your services are needed, they will think of you, not your competitor. Plus, who doesn’t need another mug?
Power of the hat. Day at the beach with friends calls for a hat and a photo op. Before you know it your logo is featured on the consumer's latest Instagram post or displayed in their new profile picture. As a result, your brand recognition is growing, whether others consciously realize it or not. This hat can also spark some beach conversation. For those that don’t immediately recognize the brand, they may ask questions, opening the floor to a sales pitch for your company. When customers share their experience with a company, it creates a whole new level of credibility.
When investing in promotional products, we understand that you want to know just how your business can benefit. The Promotional Products Association International (PPAI) has conducted research on the impact of promotional products in the growth and recognition of your business. The results show the power of promo products, see for yourself!
8 in 10 people own promotional items. Whether it's t-shirts, water bottles, pens, flash drives, sunglasses, or koozies, these items have become part of many people’s daily lives.
Product retention shows that about half of the people that receive a product will keep it for more than a year. Despite what you may think, the cups you gave out last year at the local summer festival did not go straight into the trash. Rather, they were brought back to people’s homes and were used for a significant period of time.
88% of consumers can recall the name on a promotional product they received in the last 24 months. Promo products have proven higher recognition rates than other forms of advertising such as TV and print ads. As this physical item sits in people’s homes and they utilize it in their daily routines, they are subconsciously creating a brand identification in their heads.
Promotional materials that can be used in the kitchen have the highest success rate. Kitchens items have been 91% successful followed by 74% success for items used in the workplace.
For smartphone users, there is nothing more frustrating than a phone with poor battery life. Most of us use our mobile devices throughout the day to check emails, send texts, use GPS to get from place to place, and scroll through our social media feeds. Before you know it, your phone is dead and you don’t have time to sit at an outlet waiting for it to charge. Worse case scenario: you’re nowhere near an outlet. So, what are you going to do? Power banks are portable charging devices that provide convenience and reliability on the go.
The UL Certified Persona Power Bank supports both mobile phones and tablets. The bank itself takes about 4-6 hours to charge. Plug it in via USB overnight and wake up to a fully charged device, so you are ready to take on the day. When the bank is charged it can connect to two devices at a time. It is UL certified up to 4,400 mAh, meaning that it can support and charge devices with high battery capacity. For example, the battery capacity of an iPhone 6 Plus is 2915 mAh, so to fully charge the device you are going to want to connect to a Power Bank that has a greater mAh. The Persona Power Bank can do the trick!
This gadget is one that any smartphone user can benefit from. Power banks also come in many different colors. Pick your favorite, or brand it with your company colors and logo to give away as promotional material. This is a product that people use frequently, so it is a perfect promotional giveaway!
When you are at a trade show, often times you are with a specific group of people that can benefit from your goods or services. For a weekend, day, or few hours, this themed event is attracting attendees who have an interest in learning about different businesses and their offerings. So, how do you maximize this time to generate leads? Check out our 3 tips as you head to your next trade show.
Set goals. Show up to the trade show with a mission in mind and a staff that has been clearly informed of the expected outcome of the day. Are you hoping to hone in on one of your strongest assets instead of merely skimming the surface of every moving piece that makes up your business? Be sure that you and your colleagues are clear on what your business does and offers. Determine what materials you need to effectively explain what your business does and make sure all of those materials are in place the day of the show.
Focus. There will be people buzzing around the entire time and there will be many opportunities for conversation. Realistically, you can not talk to everyone. However, you do want to talk to as many people as possible. Budget your time and stay on topic. As you begin a conversation with a prospect, try to gage where they are in the process. Are they already aware of who you are? Are they even interested? Make sure you are focusing on the conversations that will count.
Credibility. If the stranger you are about to talk to has never heard of your company, why should they take the time to listen to you? Position yourself as an expert in the industry. That being said, take the time at trade shows to network with other experts and talk to news reporters that may be there. If there is an opportunity to partake in a panel, seminar, or discussion, jump on it! These are just more ways to gain exposure and credibility.
Looking for an affordable, creative edge to promote your business? Promotional products provide a uniqueness that can help you stand out amongst the crowd. Here is how promotional products can help you grow into the business you strive to become.
Increase brand recognition. There was once a time when people did not recognize many popular logos that we all know today. Handing out promotional items at public events like trade shows, community gatherings, festivals, and fundraisers is a great way to build brand awareness.
Creative edge. Anyone can hand out a business card and everyone does. Business cards can easily float to the bottom of someone's purse or get left behind in pants pockets that end up in the wash. Something different and unique makes for a more memorable message. Promotional products can be your creative and competitive edge.
Low cost. When buying in bulk, promotional products will not break the bank and you will have the supplies to reach a large population. For small businesses, a raffle give away can create excitement and interest for what is to come. A little gift with your purchase is a “thank you” that goes a long way.
Presence. A pen, note pad, water bottle, tote bag, or sticker that potential clients or current customers are using serve as a reminder to them that you are around when they next need your services. Plus, when your promotional items make appearances in the community in the hands of customers, it forms credibility.
